Setting Up SMTP Authentication for Outlook 2007

- Open Outlook 2007.
Choose ‘Account Settings…’ from the ‘Tools’ dropdown menu item at the top of
the program window.

- From the Email tab be sure the ‘MInet’ email account is selected
then hit the 'Change' button at the top.

- Click the
‘More Settings’ button located at the bottom right corner of the window.

- Select the “Outgoing Server” tab and put a check in the box
labeled “Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires Authentication.…” Put a dot next to "Log on Using" and fill in your complete MINet
email address as the user name, then your password.

- Click on the 'Advanced' tab. Beside 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)
enter '465'. In the dropdown beside this labeled "Use the following type of encrypted connection" choose SSL. Click the
OK button at the bottom.

At this point you will be
taken back to the “Change Email Account” dialog box. In order to
verify that the changes we have made are successful we need to test the
account. Click the “Test Account Settings…” button located near the
middle of the window.

When testing the smtp authentication settings
you will get a Security Warning Message asking you to verify the security certificate of the
mail server. Click 'Yes' to continue.
If the changes we have made
are successful, you will see a successful message, with the
status of all tasks as “Completed”. If you do not have any other Minet
email accounts to apply the SMTP authentication changes to, you have
finished. Click the “Close” button then close out of all other Outlook
windows until you are back at your Windows desktop. You can now re-open
Outlook and use your email account as normal.
If you do have other Minet
email accounts to apply the SMTP authorization settings to, click the “Close”
button, then close out of all Outlook windows until you are back at your
Windows desktop. Re-open Outlook and go back through the SMTP authorization
instructions, applying the changes to all other mail.minetfiber.com email
accounts listed in your “E-mail accounts” window.

If the changes you have made
were not successful you will get a message similar to the one above
stating that Outlook could not
connect to the mail server. There are a couple
possible reasons this may have happened.
- No internet connection. Check to make
sure that your internet is working, you are able to browse to
various websites, you have not lost connection, etc.
- Your user name and/or
password were entered into the SMTP authentication window incorrectly.
At this point
you will want to select the “Close” button, which will take you back to the
“Change Account Settings” dialog box. Select the “More Settings” button to
get back into the SMTP authentication window and verify that your entire e-mail
address is entered correctly, including the “@minetfiber.com” suffix. Delete
your password and re-type (note that passwords are case sensitive).
Click “OK” and try the “Test Account Settings” button again. If you are still
getting errors you will need to contact Minet for additional assistance.
Please Note : You will receive a notification regarding a Security Certificate when sending your email after setting up SMTP Authentication. Simply choose to accept the Security Certificate.
