Setting Up SMTP Authorization for Microsoft Outlook

- Open Microsoft Outlook.
Choose ‘Email Accounts…’ from the ‘Tools’ dropdown menu item at the top of
the program window.

- Verify the ‘View or change
existing e-mail accounts’ radio button is selected then click ‘Next
>’ at the bottom of the E-mail Accounts window.

- You will be taken into the
‘E-mail Accounts’ window. This window displays all email accounts that
are currently set up in Microsoft Outlook. Locate the first Minet account in the list. This
may be shown as ‘mail.minetfiber.net’, or a different name, depending on whether or not
you altered the Name when first setting up the account. Be sure it is highlighted then click
the ‘Change…’ button on the right side of the window.
Note : If you have more than one
‘mail.minetfiber.net’ account listed in the E-mail accounts window, you will
need to complete the SMTP Authorization steps for each one.

- Under “Internet E-Mail
Settings” select the “More Settings…” button located near the bottom right
corner of the window.

- Click on the tab at the top
of the window labeled 'Outgoing Server'. Put a check in the box
labeled “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”. Be sure the
“Log on using” radio button is selected, then enter your entire email
address (including the “@minetfiber.com” suffix) in the “User Name” field
and your password in the “Password” field. Put a check in the box labeled
“Remember password”.

- Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the
E-mail settings window. Put a check in the box labeled 'This server requires an encrypted
connection (SSL)'. In the field above this labeled 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' enter '465'. Click the OK button at the bottom.

- At this point you will be
taken back to the “Internet E-mail Settings” dialog box. In order to
verify that the changes we have made are successful we need to test the
account. Click the “Test Account Settings…” button located near the
middle of the window.

- When testing the smtp authentication settings
for the first time you will get a Security Warning Message asking you to verify the use of the
mail server. Click 'Yes' to continue.

- If the changes we have made
are successful, you will see a window similar to the one above, with the
status of all tasks as “Completed”. If you do not have any other Minet
email accounts to apply the SMTP authorization changes to, you have
finished. Click the “Close” button then close out of all other Outlook
windows until you are back at your Windows desktop. You can now re-open
Outlook and use your email account as normal.
If you do have other Minet
email accounts to apply the SMTP authorization settings to, click the “Close”
button, then close out of all Outlook windows until you are back at your
Windows desktop. Re-open Outlook and go back through the SMTP authorization
instructions, applying the changes to all other mail.minetfiber.com email
accounts listed in your “E-mail accounts” window.

- If the changes you have made
were not successful you will get a message
window similar to the one above stating that Outlook could not
connect to the Outgoing mail server. There are a couple
possible reasons this may have happened.
- No internet connection. Check to make
sure that your internet is working, you are able to browse to
various websites, you have not lost connection, etc.
- Your user name and/or
password were entered into the SMTP authentication window incorrectly.
At this point
you will want to select the “Close” button, which will take you back to the
“Internet E-mail settings” dialog box. Select the “More Settings” button to
get back into the SMTP authentication window and verify that your entire e-mail
address is entered correctly, including the “@minetfiber.com” suffix. Delete
your password and re-type (note that passwords are case sensitive).
Click “OK” and try the “Test Account Settings” button again. If you are still
getting errors you will need to contact Minet for additional assistance.
Please Note : You will receive a notification regarding a Security Certificate when sending your email after setting up SMTP Authentication. Simply choose to accept the Security Certificate.
