Setting Up SMTP Authorization for Microsoft Outlook
Express

- Open Outlook Express. Choose ‘Accounts…’ from the ‘Tools’
dropdown menu item at the top of the program window.

- In the “Internet Accounts” dialog box select the first
account titled ‘mail.minetfiber.net’ then select the “Properties” button
at the right side of the window.

- This will open the
‘mail.minetfiber.net’ Properties dialog box. Click on the “Servers” tab at the
top. Next put a check mark in the box labeled “My server requires authentication”
and click the “Settings…” button at the right.

- Select the radio button labeled “Log on using”, then type
your entire Minet email address, including the “@minetfiber.com” suffix,
into the Account name field. Type your email password into the Password
field (note : email passwords are case-sensitive). Put a check in
the box labeled “Remember password” then click the OK button.
This will take
you back to the mail.minetfiber.net properties dialog box.

- Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the
E-mail properties window. Just under 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP)', put a check in the box labeled
'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'. In the field above this labeled
'Outgoing Mail (SMTP)' enter '465'. Click the OK button at the bottom

- You should now be back at your Inbox in Outlook Express.
In order to verify that your changes were successful click on the button
at the top labeled “Send/Recv”. If you do not see this button you may
have the menu bar hidden, in which case you can access the function by
holding down the ctrl key and pressing ‘M’.
If your changes were successful
then Outlook Express will complete a Send/Receive email cycle for your Minet
account. If you had no email waiting to be sent and none to receive this
function will happen quickly. What we are looking for is to verify that the
changes were successful and you did not receive an error message.
If you did not receive an
error message then you have successfully completed the SMTP authorization steps
for this mail account. If you have other Minet email accounts you will need to
go through these steps for each one. If you do not have any other Minet email
accounts then you may continue to use your email as before.

- If the SMTP changes we made were not successful for the
account, you will get a response similar to the one seen above, requesting
your user name and password. This response indicates that the user name
(email address) and/or password entered into the SMTP authorization info
does not match the user name / password in the Minet email database. Most
likely this is result of a mistype in Step 4 above.
Beginning with step one go back
through the instructions until you get to the Outgoing mail server logon
settings as shown in step 4. Confirm that your email address is correctly
typed and re-enter your password being sure to recognize upper/lower case where
necessary. If you have done this and are still getting errors you will need to
contact Minet for further assistance.
Please Note : You will receive a notification regarding a Security Certificate when sending your email after setting up SMTP Authentication. Simply choose to accept the Security Certificate.
