Setting Up SMTP Authorization for Thunderbird

1. Open
Thunderbird. Choose ‘Account Settings…’ from the ‘Tools’ dropdown menu item at
the top of the program window.

2. Select
‘Outgoing Server (SMTP)’ at the bottom of the list on the lefthand side of the
Account Settings window. Next, select the first mail.minetfiber.net account
listed on the right side of the window under Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings.
Click the ‘Edit’ button at the right

3. You
will be taken into the ‘SMTP Server’ window. Under 'Settings' enter '465' in the field labeled 'Port'.
Under ‘Security and
Authentication’ verify that there is a check mark in the box labeled ‘Use name
and password’ and that the User Name field below this contains your entire
Minet email address. By default Thunderbird should have set this up for you,
so it is probable that you will not need to make any modifications. Put a dot in the
radio button below this labeled 'SSL'.
Click the OK button to continue.
You will be returned to the Account Settings window. Click OK once more to
return to your Thunderbird inbox.

4. Select
the ‘Get Mail’ icon from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Thunderbird
should complete a send/receive email cycle. If your email account was working
through Thunderbird prior to verifying the SMTP settings then you should not
receive any errors, as you have likely not made any changes.
If you did have to make
changes and are now getting a request for password or other error(s) you will
need to contact Minet for additional assistance.
Please Note : You will receive a notification regarding a Security Certificate when sending your email after setting up SMTP Authentication. Simply choose to accept the Security Certificate.
