Setting Up SMTP Authorization for Windows Vista Mail

1. Open Windows Mail and choose ‘Accounts’ from the ‘Tools’ dropdown menu item at the top of the screen.

2. Select the first Minet email account that is in the Accounts list and click the ‘Properties’ button on the right side of the window.

3. Select the tab labeled ‘Servers’ at the top of the Properties window for the account.  Under ‘Outgoing Mail Server’ at the bottom of the window click the button labeled ‘Settings…’

4. Place a dot in the radio button labeled ‘Log on using’.  Enter your complete Minet email address, including the ‘@minetfiber.com’ suffix, into the field labeled ‘E-mail username’.  Enter your Minet email password in the field labeled password, being sure to use upper/lower case if necessary.  Click OK to continue.

5. Select the tab labeled 'Advanced'. Under Server Port Numbers in the field labeled 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP) enter '465'. Put a check mark in the box just below this labeled 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'. Click the OK button at the bottom of the page.'

At this point you will be taken back to the email properties dialog box for the account.  Click the OK button at the bottom of the window.  You should then be back to the Internet Accounts window shown in Step 2.  If you have additional Minet email accounts, follow the SMTP authorization setup steps for each one.  When finished, click the button labeled ‘Close’ at the bottom of the Internet Accounts window to return to your Vista Mail inbox.

6.Click the button in the menu bar at the top labeled ‘Send/Receive’.  If you do not have any pending incoming or outgoing email and the SMTP authorization change you made were successful Windows Mail will quickly complete a send/receive email cycle without error.

If the SMTP changes you made were not successful Windows Mail will return an error message or ask you to enter username / password information.  This is most likely because of a mistype in entering your email address and/or password in the Outgoing Mail Server dialog box.  Go back through the SMTP authentication steps, verify the spelling of your email address, and re-type your email password, being sure to use upper/lower case if applicable.  I you are still receiving errors or are unable to access your email you will need to contact Minet for further assistance.

Please Note : You will receive a notification regarding a Security Certificate when sending your email after setting up SMTP Authentication. Simply choose to accept the Security Certificate..
